"Genius is 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration", so said Thomas Edison. Usually I'd agree. Clambering on the floor, gurning at small children to get that natural smile whilst trying not to kick Mum's ornaments or upset my lights can generate a little bead of sweat or two. However sometimes inspiration plays a far bigger part, turining good baby photography
into great baby photography... and inspiration can come at any time... ...more
The day started as it would continue - in a bit of a rush, as I was travelling back from a weekend in Devon to get to Somerset House in order to experience photographing the Spring Summer 2013 Trends catwalk show at London's Fashion Weekend. Once I'd finally arrived and slumped into a chair for a pre-show briefing, I was soon back and focussing on the job in hand. A good thing too, as from then on, it was every photographer for himself as we jostled to obtain and command our 3 square feet of space in the photographers' pit at the end of the catwalk, housed by a temporary building nestled in the courtyard of Somerset House. In an area of only a few meters there can be up to 250 fashion photographer
s crammed in to capture the images that will adorn the fashion press the next day. We felt like penguins huddled together in anticipation.
A press photographer for LFW will be required to capture key photographs of the designs on the catwalk, with the brief for full-length, quarter-length and headshots plus detail shots of handbags, shoes etc, all in perfect focus, all perfectly exposed... and all in the 30 seconds or so it takes for each model to strut up the catwalk and back down... ...more

Earlier in December, we were invited to chat about our Vintage portrait and event photography on Secklow Sounds with Harry and Edna - wot ho!
Since the start of the Royal Jubilee year, it seems that 1940's and '50s Vintage themes have become an ever more popular approach for parties, balls and Makeovers. Our new Vintage event portrait photography
service provides a classic vintage style print, complete with old props, and has been designed to make the most of those guests who have especially made an effort to dress in vintage clothing and want a momento of their night out. And event organisers are loving the results! We're already working with Johnson Press events, have a massive vintage ball on the way at the Blackout Party as well as others in the runup to Xmas.
If you're organising a vintage themed event, Keep Calm, Carry On and get in touch
and let us help you to make the evening live on in your guests memories for years to come! ...more

It's just a few weeks until the Schools go back. The shops are full of 'Back To School' promotions, parents are buying the new uniforms, pencil cases and laptops (oh how times have changed...), and we're preparing for the new School year with a fantastic offering for School Photography
If you're as old as me, you'll remember school portrait photos as being a horrendous experience of gurning in front of a dull photographer, with a grey, mottled background the only thing that set the image out as being your 'obligatory school photograph'. No matter how poor the final result, your parents felt they had to part with money to document just how much you've grown and how many more spots you've cultivated in the last 12 months. And it's a shame to have to say that in many cases, things haven't changed much...
Until now. We're bringing the fun and quality of our kids studio photography
to Schools, Pre-Schools and Nurseries throughout Bucks and beyond. With a fresh new look, 4 different poses to select from as well as photos with brothers and sisters, and packages to include prints of any size for you and your family at affordable prices, our School portrait Photographs
capture the personality of each and every child and will be ones you'll want to treasure forever!
Not only that, our relationship with Schools means we're there for your sports' days, school plays, and other big events too, so you'll have the opportunity to see your son or daughter involved in many aspects of their school life!
If you'd like School Photos of your kids that you'll want to keep and share, then refer us to your school
and you'll receive your first School Photographs absolutely FREE

Occasionally, we're asked to do something a little different. Push the boundaries or even try something totally new. After providing live music photography
for the Director of St John's Smith Square for a number of years, he asked whether we could film a visiting Orchestra for him. Moving images... well, why not?
So, a few weeks later, supported by another photographer and armed with two Canon digital SLRs with video capabilities, we set off for London and set up to record a fantastic concert by the Maribo International Orchestra, all the way from Slovenia, in the 300 year-old London venue. Of course, we took the opportunity to shoot some stills of the musicians as well, but the focus was a documentary of their performance. The day was a great example of how capturing stills and moving images can differ, and how a photographer's job is frequently to overcome challenges and consider alternative solutions to do their job. The result... a lovely document of a fabulous performance and a desire to do a bit more of this moving image malarkey - it could just catch on... ...more
It's not just weddings and maternity that we photograph. Our services are in demand well after the start of a new family, as last month proved as we we asked to photograph guests at a party to celebrate 25 years of marriage for the Parkers in Guildford, Surrey. Over 100 guests partied the night away, as we captured them in full flow throughout.
Not long afterwards, we then presented the happy couple with a photobook covering the evening, with photos of all their friends and family! A lovely keepsake and a great way to celebrate an important milestone! ...more
Getting the family together in front of a camera is often easier said than done. Everyone needs to be in a good mood, happy to pose and smile. The weather needs to be kind, and - of course the family need to be in one place!
Which is why it took a little while for a final date to be agreed for this family shoot! With family spread across teh UK, it took Ian and Greta a while to bring all three generations together in their lovely Buckinghamshire garden to capture a family photograph that, by all accounts, was long overdue!
Luckily, the rain held off long enough for us to use the pretty garden as our backdrop, although the downpour that arrived shortly afterwards was not small!
A lovely family who had a bit of a laugh and joke as we coerced all into various groups for the family photographs
that'll be adorning at least three walls across the country very soon...! ...more
A lovely couple who were winners of a prize draw at a local fair were treated to a photoshoot at the grounds of Waddesdon Manor last week. However, what was planned as a simple outdoor portrait photography
shoot, turned into more of an engagement shoot as my rock music-loving subjects had got engaged just a few days beforehand!
We had a, luckily dry, day wandering the beautiful grounds and capturing some beautiful images that reflected the fun-loving personalities of the couple, whilst taking in the beauty of the House and gardens too.
A great day, and some lovely memories to recount at the wedding perhaps...?! ...more
A call from our friends at Taylor Made Media led to a bit of drive up to Bradford to capture some corporate headshots
of a professor of dermatology to accompany their promotional video for a leading beauty product manufacturer. Despite an early start and a long journey, the crew were a delight to work with, and my subject a lovely man willing to wander the hallways of Bradford University with us seeking out suitable venues and backdrops! ...more
The second annual Aylesbury Festival frew to a close this week after another fantastic run of performances from musical talents as diverse as String Quartets, Operatic singers, singer-songwriters and even death metal (I kid ye not). Proof that music of all genres receives appreciation from the kind folk of Aylesbury and beyond. A highlight of this year was the inclusion of a new venue - Claydon House, a National Trust venue with a history of musical performance. For more live music photographs

The vocal talents of I Fagiolini, headed by Robert Hollingworth, were again on show this Summer as they performed alongside Circa - an amazing and exhilerating Circus performance troupe - in a tour of English Cathedrals. Their piece - How Like An Angel - is part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, and we were asked to document the rehearsals with theatre photography
for their website. We had an amazing day at Norwich Cathedral, and were priviledged to see a glorious performance take shape. See more pics on I Fagiolini's Facebook page ...more
A few weeks ago, we were delighted to be asked to photograph the annual Lymphoma Association lunch, raising money for the Lymphoma Association and celebrating a year of campaigning and fundraising. As well as setting up a studio for their charity event photos
, we also captured the guests as they enjoyed a slap-up lunch, raffle and music as well as the 'name the bear' competition. As the 5 most diagnosed of cancers, the occurences of Lymphoma continue to increase, and you can be mistaken for simply tiredness or lethargy before diagnosis.
Over £800 was raised for the Assosiation at the annual lunch, and we've included the organiser, David Aylett, in our Great Britons of Bucks
project as well - if you'd like to donate, please check out the project here. ...more
